About Us

Home Port Veteran
Transition Home
Macon, Georgia.

Home Port Veterans Transition Home is a non-profit organization started in 2016 by Major George Brown USMC (Ret) and others as a means of providing homeless veterans with shelter, case management, transportation, and referral services to help them reintegrate into civilian life.  Eight veterans found their way to Home Port that first year.  Now, we have an average of 45 to 50 veterans and veterans with families living here each month. Home Port has leased the old Villager Lodge motel in Macon, Georgia.  The hotel has 100 units available for use of which approximately 50 have been renovated.  Our goal is to renovate the rest as well as the area designated for the counseling and training center. We currently have laundry facilities available and a food pantry that provides toiletries, paper products and cleaning supplies in addition to food.  Church services are offered every Tuesday and Thursday evening and counseling sessions are also available as needed.

Today, we proudly host an average of 45 to 50 veterans and veterans with families each month.

Community Support

Since renovations began in November of 2015, the program has been sustained through donations and grants, but primarily through the committed efforts of Home Port staff and local volunteers. Home Port has held several "All Volunteer Days".  These all-day Saturday events have brought volunteers from the local high school ROTC groups, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Habitat for Humanity, the Buffalo Soldiers, and the American Bikers.

02

Wish List

We currently have approximately 50 veterans in residence.  Each veteran pays rent. We receive no government or VA assistance so everything else is covered by donations.  These come in many forms.  Monetary donations help with things such as buying supplies to repair and maintain the rooms and paying the electric and water bills. Food donations include items for the food pantry and meals provided by local churches as well as individuals.  Businesses have donated backpacks, all-natural laundry detergent and locks for the doors.  Individuals drop off clothes, pictures, dishes and other miscellaneous items.

Counseling And Training Center

Too many times, the men and women who served our country return home with 'wounds', both physical and mental. This makes transitioning to civilian life difficult and sometimes results in homelessness. Other contributing factors include an inability to find a job, a lack of a support network and living in overcrowded or substandard housing.
