Community Support
Since renovations began in November of 2015, the program has been sustained through donations and grants, but primarily through the committed efforts of Home Port staff and local volunteers.
Home Port has held several "All Volunteer Days". These all-day Saturday events have brought volunteers from the local high school ROTC groups, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Habitat for Humanity, the Buffalo Soldiers, and the American Bikers.
Central Georgia Mustang Club and Blue Duck Events hosted this car and bike show fundraiser for Home Port. A few of the awards given out were Veteran's Choice, Best Jeep, Best Truck and Best Overall.
The veterans really enjoy the meals provided by various groups. Parkway Church delivers lunch every third Tuesday of the month. Lunch has also been supplied by individuals for different holidays and the Marines provide a Christmas luncheon every year.
Home Port has received a number of gifts from the community. Grainger and Community Foundation of Central Georgia both provided much needed grants. We also received a plaque from The Exchange Club of Macon for their help in refurbishing a room.
The public has been very generous in making donations to Home Port. In addition to canned goods, we also receive fresh eggs, bread, water, paper products and pet food. All of which is greatly appreciated by the veterans.
